Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does online therapy work?
I will send you a link by email - clicking on the link will enable you to access our Zoom sessions. It will be the same link for every session. Research suggests that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy. It can also offer more flexibility, increased sense of comfort and security, and can be beneficial for people who otherwise might struggle to get to in-person therapy. However, it's important to note that you'll need a reliable internet connection, and be able to find a private, quiet space for your sessions where you can talk freely without the fear of being overheard.
  • How does Walk & Talk therapy work?
Walk & Talk therapy is a form of outdoor therapy that combines psychotherapy, physical activity, and exposure to nature. It can be suitable for those who enjoy gentle activity and nature, those who may find it difficult to sit still while trying to process emotions in a traditional therapy session, and those who feel uncomfortable sitting in a room opposite a therapist. Being outdoors in nature is therapeutic and can itself help to reduce anxiety, stress and depression. We conduct therapy walking side by side, or siting on a bench if we need a rest. We agree a suitable location to meet in the north Down area, ensure the terrain is suitable, and discuss how we want to approach confidentiality should we see someone that one of us knows. If the weather is poor we can decide whether we continue with the session outdoors or revert to online therapy; however, walking in the rain can be therapeutic in itself.
  • Do you offer therapy via telephone?
I only conduct therapy by telephone as a temporary solution if your internet connection goes down, as I believe therapy via video (Zoom) is the more effective method as it enables us to better connect and develop a therapeutic relationship. Humans thrive when they are able to connect visually, so it makes sense that video therapy is the most effective online form of therapy.
  • Where are you located?
I'm based in Bangor, Co Down, Northern Ireland. I conduct Walk & Talk therapy in the north Down area. My online clients can be located anywhere in the UK, or anywhere in the world (except for North America due to insurance limitations).
  • What are your fees?
£55 per hour for 1-2-1 online and Walk & Talk therapy. For group therapy and corporate wellbeing, please contact me.
  • How long are sessions?
Sessions usually run for up to 1 hour, however longer sessions are possible if you feel that would be beneficial.
  • What can I expect during my free consultation?
We'll discuss your problems and what you hope to gain from therapy. I'll tell you about how I work. We can then decide whether we're a good fit. If we are we will schedule our first session.
  • What can I expect during my first session?
The first session will be a chance for us to explore your issues, develop goals, and plan for future sessions.
  • How long do I need to be in therapy?
This is based on the severity of the issue you want to resolve, how you respond to therapy, and how quickly you start feeling better.
